Your Most Important Fashion Accessory

There are some fashion accessories that are really more than just style statements. Chief among them is the handbag. While a well-designed handbag can make or break an entire outfit, its functional importance often outweighs its aesthetic impact.

From a fashion and beauty perspective, the handbag serves a secondary purpose quite apart from its own appearance. It carries all the make-up, mirrors, hairbrushes, and other paraphernalia required to maintain one’s well coiffed appearance throughout a long evening out on the town. A little extra powder or a refreshing of the lipstick can be applied at a moment’s notice if one’s look starts to come apart before the night is over.

For social occasions, the purse also contains a breath freshener of some sort. An inventory of mints that can be quickly popped into the mouth, or offered to a companion in self defense is required equipment for an evening out.

A well stocked purse will also have a spot stain remover for emergencies. Should a bit of red wine or some other offending color find its way onto a blouse, a quick trip to the ladies room and a deft application of a stain stick can save the day, often before anyone else even notices the problem.

Tissues, of course are a multi-purpose item. Dabbing a small spill, covering a sneeze, cleaning eyeglass lenses, and a host of other tiny, but necessary applications can be covered by a small packet of tissues that should always be found in the well-stocked handbag.

Other important accessories can also be kept in the handbag. The modern fashionista knows the importance of electronic devices as fashion accessories. A cell phone, of course, is the biggie. Not only does your choice of phones make a statement about you, but fashionable skins can be applied to the phone to make sure that it coordinates with the outfit that you have selected for the evening. An important consideration for today’s assertive female, is the ability to punch the phone number of a new “acquaintance” into the phone instead of scribbling on a scrap of paper like any commoner.

For the train commute to work, an iPod and earbuds, not only makes a fashion statement, but also present the aloof, above it all, attitude of someone choosing not immerse themselves in music rather than conversation with strangers. Again, though, the music player should be “skinned” to coordinate properly, though for the commute, matching it to an overcoat is more appropriate.

Of course, the most important all purpose fashion accessory of all should be carried in the handbag at all times. That one item that can instantly fix any fashion problem is of course, the credit card.
